This skirt comes from an antique handwoven manta in the personal collection of Norberta, in Chinchero. It is sheep wool, dyed by hand to a vivid, living red and crossed with woven stripes. The manta was large, so rather than tailor or reshape such a rare cloth, we divided it into two skirts and left each one otherwise intact, making only a single small opening to thread a handwoven belt through. The two are a near pair, each slightly its own, and the one that comes to you carries that shared origin. The wool is warm and substantial, a skirt for winter and for cold highland days, and it sits and holds you in a way that feels grounding, as at home in a ceremony as in ordinary wear. Because the weave was kept as it was, the skirt holds to a fixed size and has little give.
